Renowned Melbourne based ensemble Anja & Zlatna will give concert named “Russian Caravan” on Saturday, November 17th, at 6pm at prestigious Melbourne Recital Centre. The audience knows very well their unique interpretations and baroque sound they give to old traditional songs of beautiful Balkans & other parts of the world and this time there will be some of the most beautiful Russian folks songs on their repertoire.

Anja & Zlatna will take audience to musical journey across Russia, land imbued with a fascinating and curious history, as they say in Melbourne Recital Centre. Russian Caravan features traditional and street songs, exploring dreams, nature and integral questions of existence. From the ecstatic meditations of ‘Dusha maya pogreshnaya’, to the pensive street poetry of ‘Godi Mchatsya’ (Years Rush) and the patriotic war song ‘Katyusha’, experience the variety of Russian song with some added romance, of songs which became popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The name of ensemble Anja & Zlatna refers to their vocal soloists Aleksandra Anja Acker, originating from Belgrade (Serbia), and Kirsty Morphet and her golden hair, since zlatna means golden in Serbian. Besides that, Aleksandra Acker is an artistic director of the ensemble, as well as lecturer at RMIT University in Melbourne and the member of Australian national comity for music education in early age. One of the best harpsichordists nowadays Donald Nicolson gives unique baroque sound and special contribution to the interpretations of Anja & Zlatna. Musicians of this ensemble are also Andrew Tanner, Tim Nikolsky, Matthew Horsley and Ryan Williams. The upcoming concert in Melbourne Recital Centre is their 5th performance in this prestigious venue. They also performed at Kolarac venue in Belgrade and other Serbian and Australian famous concert halls.
